Running

Today’s unplanned run was powered before and after by Casey’s pizza. Probably not the best choice for before but then again I wasn’t shooting to run so far today. However, I was asked and well how could turn down running with a friend. πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

This was the post run pizza. 😁

Ummm… that is not what I wanted to happen Xfinity. Now it makes sense when I looked at my phone during the middle of my run and it said activation failed and I had no service πŸ˜’πŸ€¬

Just beautiful outside today. Blue skies, a breeze, and the temps sitting at around 60Β°F. Couldn’t pass this up on a Friday morning and am thankful that my schedule was wide open so I could run a little longer than planned. πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

New favorite cut through trail I found a couple weeks back. Each week at dance I try to get a faster time one this little segment. Not so much this week, I think it all comes down to the footwork around this washed out part. πŸ˜†

It was a warm one today but I needed to move so I ran around Clear Lake in Waseca, MN.

    Grocery Shopping Run

I like how well the Apple AirPods just work with my iPhone. Only over the last year have I switched almost all of my personal devices back to Apple devices and today I was reminded why it just makes sense and it just works.

With the upcoming weekend, I had a block of time this morning that I could get a longer than normal done during the workday. Since we are camping this weekend I wasn’t sure what the long weekend would bring.

iPod Pro and iPhone 13 Mini

I only got about 1.5 miles into my run this morning when I got the text (that was conveniently spoken to me) from our Grocery shopper that they are going to start shopping for us. I am not sure why my wife put my number for them to contact but it probably works as I am in front of a computer most days and she is a teacher in front of kids. However, I was able to respond easily to the shopper on her questions about substitutions for the entire run. I never had to stop once to grab my phone out and respond and I was listening to a Podcast in between the times that she would ask me another question. It was honestly just so simple to listen to what she asked me and then say β€œreply” and respond with my answer. I exchanged 10 messages with her until she finally sent me the note saying she was done and I would get an email shortly. This was conveniently 1 mile before I was done and I was ok with the fact that all of this happened as I was doing something else. I didn’t have much else going on during that run but I would have been frustrated if I would have had to stop every mile and try to respond to her on my phone instead of just plugging away at the miles while texting her back.

Times when technology works the way it is intended (or maybe not intended) for me just blows my mind. Some people probably would not enjoy such a disruption as I had today but I didn’t mind it at all as I might have otherwise been stuck with groceries I didn’t want or ones I would have happily taken a replacement for but never responded to say so.

Just a beautiful day to be outside running. Blue skies and 61Β°F this morning. πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Needed this run today it has been a long week. Not to mention I felt much better running than I though I would have. πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Had to get this one done in the early morning hours today. It has been awhile since I have woken up and went right out for a run. I think my body was confused and wanted coffee first πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈβ˜•οΈ

    πŸ“Έ Photoblogging - Day 23: Plain

Just a plain looking sky today on my late afternoon run.

Saw this shovel and spraying can in the road on my run today. I decided to do my good deed by moving it into the grass I am sure either of those could have had some consequences if someone ran over them.

Just ran by a family of geese this afternoon. πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Really wasn’t feeling it today but it was beautiful out again so decided to hit the trails and pavement for some miles today. πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Really was a beautiful day today and good day to recover from yesterday’s long run.

Explored a good amount of new terrain today and was able to cut next to the Minnesota Arboretum on their new boardwalk trail.

    πŸ“š Reap3r by Eliot Peper

This book was just awesome! I had been looking for a book to read and this one dropped into my lap at the right time.

I have been a big fan of Eliot’s books in the past and this one again is not a disappointment and somehow seems to take it to the next level.

Due to a busy schedule of kids' activities, it took me a while to actually pick up Reap3r and start reading it but once I did I could not put it down. The bite-sized chapters and fast-paced book kept me wanting to read more and find out what happened and unfolded next.

Well, what more can I say that you should go pick up a copy when it is released on May 18th. Eliot does it again by doing a great job of keeping the book relevant enough in today’s world in both technology, political, and environmental issues that help make a near future book seems believable and real. With out spoiling too much some of the things he brings up in the book is crazy to think he wrote those parts more than 2 years before publishing and some of the ideas and thoughts he put in the book came true 😳. I think that is why I love his books so much. No matter how fast-paced or near future he makes the books they don’t feel that far out on the horizon of technology and the issues seem like they might be something we will need to address in our lifetime.

The story has many key characters that each have their own stories and at the start, you keep trying to figure out how everything is going to fit together. That is where the magic of his writing takes place as he weaves each of the characters' stories together. There are past friendships / acquaintances with secrets to hide which is how they ended up where they are today. Then there are newer characters that have created something amazing and are now being thrust into the mix and trying to put all the pieces together.

Not to mention Eliot’s attention to detail throughout the book I always appreciate as I can picture the places he is talking about and it makes me feel like I am there seeing the sights and sounds. Also, how can I forget if you have read some or all of Eliot’s books you might find some tie-ins or mentions of technology, and/or people from his previous works πŸ˜‰.

Thanks again to my friend Eliot for providing me with an advanced copy of your book as I thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I noticed that there will be an Audiobook version that he will be doing the reading for so I have already reserved a copy of that to accompany me on some long runs in the future.

As I mentioned I have read some of Eliot’s books before and wrote about them so if you are interested to check out some of his other books go for it as you won’t be disappointed! Here are a couple: Veil, True Blue (A Short Story), Bandwidth, Borderless, and Breach. Also, check out his website as he has a great newsletter.

I am not sure why I keep running across very friendly deer lately. I mean they are in no hurry to run a way as I am running what has to seem like towards them and then past. Then I stop not far away and pull my phone out and snap a picture. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ¦ŒπŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Cutting through the woods for some different scenery today. πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Seems like the day of the deer 🦌. I ran right by this one, stopped, got my phone out and took this picture with out it even running. πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Dialed it back this weekend as Saturday was a busy one and could barely sneak this run in today.
